Volunteer
Volunteers are an essential part of the ministry of BsideU For Life. Our volunteers enable us to effectively serve and support our clients during the difficulties of a crisis pregnancy and beyond. Being a volunteer at BsideU For Life has eternal value. Serving in this ministry offers men and women the opportunity to use their God-given gifts and abilities to empower women to boldly choose life for their child and embrace the truth of the gospel. Please prayerfully consider how the Lord is calling you to be involved with this life-saving, life-changing ministry.
Opportunities
Crisis Pregnancy Advocate: Advocates will walk with clients through their pregnancy test, results, and decision-making process. Our volunteer advocates have a unique opportunity to help a woman understand all her choices by sharing the truth about fetal development, abortion procedures and risks, sexual integrity, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. The advocate also has the chance to provide helpful referrals, encourage, and pray with the client. We fully train all of our advocates and require a weekly commitment of 4 hours.
Reception: First impressions are so important, and receptionists are the first point of contact clients have with our ministry. As such, a volunteer receptionist should be warm and hospitable. Since responsibilities also include answering phones, scheduling appointments, preparing client charts, and managing client intake, volunteer receptionists must also be well organized and able to multi-task. We provide full training for our receptionists and require a weekly commitment of 3 hours.
Medical Professionals: Nurses (LPN or RN) or medical assistants – Since expanding our services to include STI testing and treatment, we are in need of regular nursing volunteers to counsel on sexual risk avoidance from a medical standpoint and also discuss the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections as part of the crisis counseling process for pregnant women who come to the center.
Organizing baby & maternity clothing: As part of our ministry to women in crisis pregnancies, we are blessed to be able to offer them material support. Our behind the scenes team of benevolence volunteers are responsible for taking inventory of donated items, sorting, and storing them according to our system. This critical volunteer position requires no training and is a bi-monthly or weekly commitment.
GED/Language Arts Tutor: As part of our ongoing effort to edify women after they have made a decision about their pregnancy, tutoring takes place Monday-Thursday. Tutors work with clients in a small-group setting to study current curriculum or complete homework. The main subject covered throughout the year is English/language arts. The volunteer tutor is asked to commit to serve weekly a minimum of 2 ½ hours one day a week.
Children’s Ministry: Our children’s ministry exists to serve the women of BsideU For Life while they participate in classes and programs. Children between 6 weeks and preschool age are taught Bible Stories, crafts, worship songs, and preschool basics. The Children’s Ministry Volunteer has completed training and a background check. We require a weekly commitment of 2 ½ hours.
Prepare a Meal: Lunch is served every weekday to life skills clients at BsideU for Life and their children. The Volunteer Kitchen Helper will prepare or provide lunch, visit with clients and their children, and help with clean up. This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups to build meaningful relationships with our clients. We recommend a monthly commitment, but one–time opportunities are available as well.
Prayer Ministry: Our ministry would cease to exist outside of the intercession of others. The Prayer Ministry Volunteer is committed to praying for the specific needs of clients, volunteers, and staff of the ministry. He or she commits to pray 15-30 minutes on a specific day of the week. This volunteer will also be added to our Prayer Partners list where he or she will receive monthly prayer requests.
Donor Relations Support: A person who, after receiving one-on-one instruction about the mission and goals of the ministry, will help with reaching others for the benefit of the ministry.
Event Planning: This person will serve on a planning committee for one of our special events. Responsibilities may include attending planning meetings, contacting potential supporters, designing promotional materials, and being on-site the day of the event. Experience with marketing, fundraising, or graphic design is helpful, but not required.
Grounds and Housekeeping: The grounds and housekeeping volunteer will help with the maintenance of landscape, cleaning of our facilities, and general handyman duties such as changing light bulbs and small repairs.
Church Liaison: This person is asked to promote the ministry in their local church family. They help promote their church’s awareness of our services, fundraising events, information tours, and refer potential volunteers to the volunteer coordinator.
