Reopening Our Services

Navigating BsideU For Life’s role and capabilities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and racial unrest in Louisville has been both growing and challenging. Our goal is to whole-heartedly serve our clients as best we can, reflecting the image of Christ in everything we do. Our staff is so grateful to have the opportunity to be back together with our clients, their children, and with each other.

Here are some updates on what our services and daily life look like amid this season:

Although Life Skills Education had to be temporarily put on pause due to the pandemic, we are so excited to be offering that service once again. Since June 8, classes have started back up in the cafeteria. By using alternative entrances and a thorough screening process, including a temperature check and health questionnaire, we are diligently working to ensure the safety of our staff and clients. Providing masks for the women attending classes and seating them individually at tables spread out across the room allows us to safely meet together while following CDC guidelines. Class hours have been shortened from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and grab-n-go sack lunches are provided in the last hour. In addition to the procedural changes of Life Skills Education, the curriculum has also been adjusted to include two new group counseling classes, specifically focusing on the women’s struggles throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and racial turmoil. Life Skills Program Director, Sandy Gross, expressed that the heart behind these classes is to care for both our staff and students amid this difficult time.

Childcare services have also started back up to accommodate the mothers attending Life Skills classes. On June 15, we welcomed back not only the families we serve but also our new Children’s Ministry Coordinator/Lead Teacher, Kimberley Forsythe. See our staff spotlight in the newsletter to learn more about Kimberley and her heart for the children in this ministry. In addition to reopening our childcare services, we celebrated the children’s return with a new playground! Every day at 11 a.m., the kids look forward to enjoying time outside on the see-saw, bridge, playhouse, and more. We are so grateful to be able to utilize this new playground as a tool to serve families.

Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout this challenging time. We are looking forward to the continued growth and service of BsideU For Life’s ministry.
