Golf Scramble and Team Life Ride for Life Recap
Clear, sunny skies and beautiful, warm weather welcomed golfers to the Persimmon Ridge Golf Club as they gathered to tee off in support of BsideU for Life. Our annual Rick Bordas Scramble for Life is one of a few fundraising events we hold every year to ensure we can continue our work to save babies from abortion, and their moms for Christ. This year’s event had to be postponed a couple months due to the pandemic, but despite that we had 25 teams (or 100 golfers) come out to support the ministry and take part in a little friendly competition.
Back by popular demand this year, players were able to donate for a chance at sinking a winning putt. Donations were pooled, with the best putter winning half the pot, and the rest benefitting the ministry. The competition was fierce, and had to go into a final putt-off, but the winner ended up donating most of his prize back to BsideU For Life!
As players made their way through the golf course, they also participated in a scavenger hunt to find and notate strategically positioned signs containing “did you know” statistics about the ministry. Players learned things like:
-In our 32 years in ministry, over 10,000 babies have been saved!
-723 women have attended our life skills classes over the last three years that we’ve been in our new facility.
Making its debut at the event was our new (to us) mobile ultrasound unit. You’ll hear more about this in the coming months, but for now, see the video for a sneak peek at the way we’ll be able to impact more women and babies in need of life saving and life changing help in areas of our community that reach beyond our two physical locations.
The weather also cooperated nicely for our Team Life Bike Ride ten days earlier. We had 76 riders come out to ride either a 10, 23 or 53 mile route to support BsideU for Life. Using the Everyday Heroes fundraising platform, many of the riders worked in the weeks leading up to the ride to involve their friends and family in the effort to raise much needed funds.
Things looked a bit different this year for both events due to COVID-19; we kept everything outside, staggered times for golfers and riders to start, and had to forgo our typical awards ceremonies and celebrations, but participants in both events had a lot of fun, and raised a good amount of funds to help us meet our fundraising goals! If you’d like to contribute to either of these events, click here to donate now!
Special thanks to each of our sponsors, and to all of the golfers, riders and volunteers that came out to make these events a success! We look forward to seeing you again next year!
